The Wisconsin Lake Superior Coastal Map Viewer is an experimental website. It is a product of the Land Information and Computer Graphics Facilty at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute. It was prepared as part of a project funded by the NOAA Coastal Services Center to promote the development of a "dynamic and distributed" geographic information system (GIS) to support integrated coastal management along the Lake Superior coast of Wisconsin. A dynamic and distributed GIS is one where custodians, whether they be local, regional, state, federal, academic, or non-profit, maintain and provide access to the most current spatial data and multiple remote users can access and integrate data in real-time from multiple sources. The viewer provides a means to discover, view, and integrate web map services that come from the wide variety of contributors.
